Marine survey
SURVEY
Even if a survey is not mandatory, it is highly recommended. The surveyor will inspect the boat from the masthead to the keel to provide you with a precise condition of the boat you wish to purchase.A survey usually lasts a full day or more depending on the ship's equipment.Attending the expertise of your next boat also allows you to get to know it better.
Hull inspection on the dry
During the survey, an inspection of the hull is essential. This requires a hauling. Depending on the location of the boat the cost is variable but it goes from 500 € to 1200 € . (At buyer cost)
Sea Trial
The sea trial consists of a 2 to 3 hour sailing during which the surveyor checks the equipments, sails, rigging, etc., in situ. In case of absence of the owner, the boat is usually handled by a professional skipper.
SURVEY REPORT
At the end of the survey, after having made a report on the boat, the surveyor will quickly give you a "Job List" with his main remarks. This "Job List" should be enough for you to confirm or not your purchase with possible reserves (price reduction or work to be done by the seller before delivery). The surveyor will then give you a full report that will be used for insurance purposes.
SURVEYORS
You must choose your surveyor even if our experience can lead us to advise you. You should also consult with the insurance company you are considering because this surveyor must be approved by your next insurer.
Surveyor selection
The choice of a local surveyor, if it is possible, avoids the extra costs related to travel and accommodation. (inter-island flights are often very expensive) - The list of surveyors below only includes those whose skills and abilities we know. There are of course other surveyors...
