A word from the owners:
“We bought The Event in Stockholm in 2021 to fulfill our dream of an Atlantic crossing. Over the next two years, we prepared the boat and ourselves for the journey.
We started our adventure in Sweden in late June 2024, crossing the North Sea from Norway to Scotland. From there, we continued through the Caledonian Canal, crossed the Irish Sea to Dublin, then sailed to the Scilly Isles before making the Biscay crossing to Spain and Portugal. In October, we set sail for Madeira and then continued to the Canary Islands.
In Tenerife, we prepared the boat for the crossing, including a sail and rigging inspection, engine servicing, and provisioning with water, diesel, and food for three weeks.
On November 26th, we departed Tenerife, and it took us 22 days to cross the Atlantic Ocean to Barbados—covering 2,756 nautical miles. The passage went well, with varying winds and weather. During the crossing, we primarily used the Genoa and Gennaker.
Now, having made our way through the Windward Islands to Saint Martin, we have sailed over 7,000 nautical miles. The time has come for us to pass The Event on to someone else who dreams of making their own journey.
The Event was built by Prout on Canvey Island in 1990. Prout catamarans have sailed across many oceans and are renowned for their exceptional safety record, offering a balance of safety, speed, price, and comfort that few others achieve. Prout catamarans are also well known for retaining their value.
Our boat, The Event, has been meticulously maintained. Since she was brought to Sweden 15 years ago, she has been hauled out of the water every autumn, stored ashore, and covered each winter. In Sweden, the boating season is short, typically running from May to September. Boats are then hauled out of the water for the remainder of the year The mast has been removed annually and stored indoors.
Both the mast and standing rigging have been inspected and serviced every spring before being reinstalled. The engine has been winterized, serviced, and maintained annually before launching the boat each spring. She comes fully equipped for long-term cruising or liveaboard life.”
